#3 Ms.Yoga on the Plane to India (The 100 People I Met On My Travels)

When I boarded the plane, the window seat was already taken. I felt it was such a shame that the ground staff managed to give not even one window seat on the small plane when we were traveling as a family of 4.

Next time I will surely ask the ground staff for a window seat, since the view from the sky flying from Kathmandu to Delhi is breathtaking. So, who took this window seat? I wondered. This person left his or her passport in the seat pocket. Oh, and an iPad!

While I was puzzled, the owner of the seat returned. It was a lady in shockingly orange Indian pajamas, and a short top that revealed some of her white skin.

She was a westerner.

“Sorry.” she said, as she squeezed through. Her voice was sweet like a young girl, but she must be in her 30s already.

I noticed something different about her. She was wearing Buddhist accessories, and a tattoo of some Sanskrit alphabet. (After I researched, it is called Rta. Read more from wikipedia)

In her hand were the Buddhist beads, which she closely held for the whole time.

I have seen white monks, but I haven’t talked to any before. I felt she was totally in a different world than mine, and I guess she was in the spotlight all the time. So I didn’t ask her any question.

The flight was scheduled at 2 p.m. but there was a problem with the engine. And the seat belt sign was off. There was an announcement that the engine had some problem. I did not mind at all, I figured the airline staff would be more worried than me. So I continued watching my movies.

“Excuse me, has any flight landed before after the engine being fixed?”, the western lady spoke up, in a thick British accent. The flight attendant simply replied her, “Airplane is the safest mode of transportation. The engine is fine but some buttons are on, that’s why we are doing a check-up. We will leave shortly in 10 to 15 minutes.”
