About half an hour later, the engine was being restarted, but the sound was still weird. Even I noticed it this time. We were stuck. I joked with my brother about only taking the life jacket under your seat and not the seat in front of you.
The western lady started to tap the passenger in front of her, “Is this normal?” She didn’t get an encouraging response. The person simply told her that we would leave in 10 to 15 minutes. So she continued to say, “I rather they cancel this flight. They shouldn’t fly.”
That was the moment I started to think whether the plane was okay, and how absurd and sad it would be to die on the plane from Kathmandu to Delhi. So tragedic. But the thought didn’t stay long.
I was distracted by her. She was praying with her beads as if the plane was doomed to crash. I started to think why she was so nervous? And I started to pray too that in case I die, I want to be in the heaven. But I just felt it would make no sense that God allows his servants to die on this small plane. But God has His plans for everything. Maybe God wants us to share about the gospel with this lady? If we all die, I’m not sure she will be in the heaven. I’m not sure if she still believes in Jesus.
While I was thinking, the western lady started to talk to the passengers behind her. “Is this normal? For this flight to India?”
And God has placed someone more vocal on that seat. Someone answered, “Just pray. Pray to Jesus. Only Jesus!”
And the western lady seemed to agree. She said OK, which was definitely a surprise to me. I thought she would reject the notion of Jesus’ name.
And finally, we departed at 3 p.m. Her eyes were looking at the scenes outside. And her lips murmured more prayers.
It was a normal flight. Everything was normal. It was hard to think that we had an engine problem for an hour. The western lady started to edit her videos on her iPad. I saw she playing yoga in Bouddha (a place in Kathamandu) in her videos. She was good, even if you see her as a gymnist. She could support all her body on her hands.
