I think I found the cheapest horse riding tour in Iceland.
But I don’t know if I should recommend it. It was not a bad trip, and the scenary was fantastic, but I guess the weather was really cold and I didn’t see seals as close as I imagined, hence in conclusion it wasn’t as enjoyable as my Viking sushi tour or whale watching tour.
Location: Husey (close to Egilstadir in East Iceland)
Duration: 2 hours
Cost: 6500 kr http://www.husey.de/english/9_preise.html (Why in german? The owner of this place is from Germany)
*The fee is now 7800kr.
The owner was an old guy, and he also runs a hostel at his farm. He was quite accommodating as we were 20 minutes late (the place is at the end of road 926), and in the end we returned at 12:45pm.
It was pretty cool to ride close to the glacial river. And the seals were there in the water but far away. And there were crazy arctic skuas there. It was actually very cool to be surrounded in wilderness.
There were 9 of us and we had 2 guides. It seems like every summer the owner hires guides from Germany. I guess that’s one reason why the tour is cheaper than everywhere else. (Also because it is far away). The guides were serious, and I guess tired too.
So if you want to try riding Icelandic horses, I guess you can consider this as it is cheaper. But if you don’t have a plan to come to East Iceland, you are also not missing anything.
