The Best Hostel in Lviv! Lviv Dream Hostel

Lviv, a city known for its coffee and architecture in Ukraine. Since most attractions are in the Old Town, I will recommend picking your accommodation in Old Town. I’ve tried 4 hostels in Lviv, and I must say Lviv Dream Hostel is much better than the other 3!

While the Old Town of Lviv has its charm, it’s likely you find serious cat peeing smell on the streets and sometimes inside the hallway or staircase. It’s terrible. So if you do want to stay in the Old Town, I recommend this Lviv Dream Hostel because the building was just remodeled! The location is right, atmosphere is right, and service was great! No wonder after 1600 reviews on Booking.com, they still have 9.5/10 score! Wow!

The Environment

When you walk in, it’s very relaxing and cool.

And I appreciated everything because I just ran away from a cat peeing smell hostel. Since I was here early, I had to use the locker room. It’s awesome that you can leave your luggage here for free BEFORE and AFTER your stay. Unlike the other highly-rated hostel I stayed in Odessa….. Anyways,  I left my luggage here after check-out again before I took my night train.

Oh! And there’s this electronic key to the luggage room that you get from the reception! It seems very secure! (And the reception has a screen of footages from different surveillance cameras)

I like the style of this hostel. It’s more than a hostel. There’s a lounge on 2nd floor where the reception, some dorms and luggage room are. But there’s another big lounge on 4th floor where the kitchen and more dorms are! It’s very well designed whether you are here to relax, work, chat or eat. I love these swings! It’s not a place that makes you feel ‘punished’ for not having a budget for staying in hotel. Staying in Lviv Dream Hostel itself is cool!

The wall of fame….. Well you can write something there too! People wrote their instagram account there. But I do have a loner’s pride so I skipped it. This entrance leads to a kitchen.

And the kitchen looks like Ikea! It’s straightforward and easy to use. Everything is spotless clean. They hire a cleaner lady from outside (no wonder the reception people looked so relax!) I guess most hostel staff need to clean and change bedsheets as part of their job?

And I liked their fridge. And the system of using “baskets”. It’s just easier this way to have a standard basket of your own in the fridge, with a post-it on with clear check-out date and name. By the way I saw someone was checking 3 weeks later! That’s so crazy!

The dining area next to the kitchen. It’s homey!

The other side of the wall of fame is a language world. Now it’s the moment to learn some Ukrainian! (Yes people in Ukraine speak Ukrainian, not just Russian). Maybe it’s good to start with “dyakuyu” (thank you!)

Okay, some Ukrainians don’t speak Ukrainian. But younger generation or people on the western side of Ukraine have picked up the trend of “Ukrainian first”. And the official language in Ukraine is Ukrainian, not Russian!

The Room

I stayed in a quadruple room with my family. It looks exactly like the pictures I saw on Booking.com. The difference? Not much, it was more comfortable than I expected! And the beds were all set up! I think this room was $36 without breakfast. Yes it’s $3 dollars more expensive per head comparing to other hostels in Lviv, but I’m happy here! I’m glad that I’m not handed with a pillow case, and sheets at check-in! I’m happy everything was ready for me!

The quadruple room comes with a private bath. The tiles are  yellow in our bathroom! I used the toilet and shower room in common area to save time. The tiles are all different in color, but the coolest part is everywhere is spotless clean! I think hostels should hire professional people for cleaning… it is very different…..

Activities?

You sure get more info to activities and hangouts when you stay in a hostel. But Ukrain is not really on the radar of most people. I don’t think there is any “real” activity hosted by this hostel. At least not during winter time!

Oh! But I did see announcement about things you can buy from the reception! If you don’t feel like hunting down shampoo in the Old City, it’s fine to buy from the reception!
