Lviv, an important city during the Austro-Hungarian period. Actually, you can still see the elegant lifestyle the nobles had from the remaining culture and architecture. I wish I had spent more time walking around, but I ended up knowing this city through food. Besides being the first cafe in the world, there is also a rich and varied restaurant food culture here. You walk a few steps and there’s another inviting restaurant! And they all come with a theme! Well, I find all these restaurants worth visiting again, if you can’t decide which ones to add on your list, that’s just how tough the competition is here!

1.Baczewski Restaurant: Breakfast Buffet with Champagne in a Canary Garden for $4?

Canary, piano, garden, champagne… you can find all these romantic elements in one morning from Baczewski Restaurant! This restaurant  is arguably the most beautiful secret garden in Ukraine! It’s amazing to have a breakfast buffet with a glass of champagne, for 120UAH! That’s $4! Seriously? But  queue up before 8 o’clock!

2. Ribs Restaurant “At Arsenal”

Just below the Arsenal Museum, probably a knight’s hall in the past castle. This is the place where you get big bites for meat! There is no tableware here. After the table paper is laid, the waiter drew dishes and forks…. Because you eat with your hands here!! It’s actually fun! Juicy roast pork ribs, 400 grams of pork ribs for only 120UAH! If you are 3 people, I think 2 servings will do! Also a professional dulcimer was there! Expect to line up if you come in meal time. I had 80 people in front of me, and they don’t take phone call reservation. Expect to pay 150UAH ($5) for a super-satisfying meal!

3. Gas Lamp

If you see someone from Middle Ages on the road, then you’ve found the place. You’ll enter a super dark basement, and you’ll climb a flight of stairs. The building is tall and you want to get to the top floor where everyone is!  Each floor has gas lamps of different times! On the top floor, there is a large window on the top floor to see the church roof. The menu designs to be like a scientist’ lab, the meal is OK, the bill was a surprise. Not the price, but how they presented it in a bomb box.  Expect to pay 200UAH per person.

4. House Of Legends

Near the ruins of the synagogue, that’s where the “House of Legends” is. If you want to find the tiniest statue in Lviv, here he is! On the roof top! If you somehow throw a coin into his bag, then all your dreams will supposedly come true. To do that, you’ll need to climb up in a chimney! How cool is that! And the view was spectacular too! It’s a great place for taking pictures when there’s a classic car on the roof. Food was not bad, and price was reasonable. You can apply for a Lokal Card (a discount card) for free here. Expect to pay 100UAH for a meal.

5.Meat and Justice

At the other entrance of Arsenal museum, you’ll find Meat and Justice restaurant. All the decorations in it are torture tools of the Middle Ages. Creepy and sad. There’s even an executioner… and he cut a piece of meat with one of the rolls during our meal. So it’s kind of an ‘experience’. To pay the bill, the waiter came with an axe! Try not to let him chop off your finger! You can’t make a reservation. Expect to pay 250 for the meal.

6.Pravda Beer Theatre

Opposite to Baczewski Restaurant, you will see a souvenir shop selling beer. But there’s a very good restaurant on 2nd and 3rd floor. Every night (except Sunday)  a symphony orchestra plays live music from 7pm to 10pm.  The atmosphere is very good! And…..  the best part is that the steak here is super delicious~  If you like tasty meat, this is the place! Remember to get a Lokal card from House of Legends here if you want some discounts. Expect to pay around 200-250UAH.

7.Kryivka

So Kryivka means ‘bunker’, and you are supposed to answer “Geroyam slava!”  (Glory to the heros) to be let in at the entrance. You’d go deep to the actual bunkers, and it gives a ‘war-like’ vibe. Quite interesting, even though food was authentic. Maybe no one is supposed to enjoy war-time.
