Our guide at Ark Fortress wore a kickass jacket.
So, since we liked her jacket so much, she generously (or proudly) told us the address of this fashion clothing shop in Bukhara. It wasn’t easy to find, but it wasn’t like we had a lot to do in Bukhara…. so we enjoyed locating the shop. It didn’t have any signboard or whatsoever.
Since it’s not a normal touristic attraction, I must share my experience.
Right in the house you see a workshop with tailors. They were mostly sewing embroidery. The patterns are bold and beautiful.
The manager was pretty friendly to my friend and I. She seemed to be happy with our presence. This is her modeling. We didn’t try any jacket as we kind of knew at this point that the jackets were expensive to us. (Which means there must be a ton of rich uzbeks!)
This is really loud!
And the theme of this jacket is…. fish!
There’s a room in the back with more designs. And the range of these jackets were at least $100.
I felt pretty lucky to have this experience. Although it was unfortunate that the style didn’t suit me (and for this price it was unlikely I’d buy it as a gift to someone). However I really appreciate their pride in their fashion. I’m sure they have a good market and a good demand! Sorry that I was just a poor student and a poor backpacker…
