Church of Our Savior Copenhagen- The Awesome View Above 400 Steps!

My #4 Attraction with Copenhagen Card

Church of Our Savior in Copenhagen (Vor Frelsers Kirke), completed in 1752, is a unique church that you won’t forget when you see it.  I chose it over The Round Tower (Rundetaarn) because you get to see the view in open air, and it just seems cooler!

And I also just wanted to know if I have fear to heights (I read somewhere that the outside section is not recommended for those who have fear to heights.)

This church was also a project of Christian (the person who brought the first Jew to Denmark and the king who built Rosenborg).

When Christian IV planned Christianshavn in 1617, it was intended as an independent merchant’s town on the island of Amager and it therefore needed a church. (Wikipedia)

My Tip

Try to go there early. It opens at 10am in summer. I went there 2 minutes before 10am and there was no one else! It’s so much fun to explore the stairs all by yourself. (Although when I reached the outdoor stairs, we found 2 tourists there!  Go there early!

My Experience

When I saw this church from my canal tour, I changed my mind about Rundetaarn. This is cooler. And it is!

The fun starts from inside! The stairs are wooden and pretty old. And very narrow. You’d expect huge traffic jam if there are more tourists trying to go up or down.

There were so many stairs even in the inside. And I started to understand why hunchback of Notre Dam could hide perfectly. Because I guess no one would like to climb all those stairs!! When you see the bells you are about 100 steps to the outdoor stairs.

And voila! This is the view when you reach the outdoor floor! I can spot the Marble Church (the dome-style church on the right). And the stock exchange building (on the left).

And from this angle you can see the Marble Church and the Opera House. (The rest I don’t recognize… just houses?)

I really like Copenhagen. It’s such a beautiful place.

Other sides….Copenhagen style of apartment? I like how green the city is!

And you can continue to climb the stairs….. well, you’d need to find out yourself what you’d see! Have fun!
