Total Distance/Driving Time: 243km, 3.5 hours
Activity:Old and New Churches From Hvammstangi to Akureyri- Þingeyrar, Blönduóskirkja and Glaumbær
Tip:
- Don’t bother going to Víðimýrarkirkja, its location on Google Map is wrong!!
- If you like churches, Þingeyrar-Blönduóskirkja are really cool!
- Don’t underestimate your travel time to Dalvik, otherwise you might ended up getting a speed ticket (if you’ve paid for your whale watching tour already!)
- The campsite at Dalvik (Hussabaki) is definitely not 5-star! But it’s the most convenient one closes to Dalvik. If you are uncomfortable showering in public shower room (as it is common in Iceland), go super early..
Day 8 Northern Region (3)

Total Distance/Driving Time: 302km, 4 hours
Highlight:…….
Tip:
- Don’t miss out the Husavik Church!
- Ásbyrgi Canyon is a 3-4 hour trip. If you don’t plan for it, you will not have enough time for it.
Thank you so much for your post. Your itinerary is almost identical to what our one is going to be, except we are doing it in 16 days. Just a quick question on the camping site in Bolungarvik. Does it have a covered kitchen/washing up section?
We are going in a camper and just want to check that if it rains, that we can still make food.
Yes it has both a covered kitchen, sink, and some utensils as well! I remember their
kitchen closes at 9pm though!
