Copenhagen is a very tourist friendly city. The airport is very close to the center and Copenhagen card helps tourists save a lot. I visited Copenhagen for 4 days and 3 nights, and I planned it according to maximizing the value of the Copenhagen Card. So next time I will probably just get a travel card and ride a bicycle. Sometimes being a tourist is tiring.
So yup, we spent $30.5 per day per person in Copenhagen.
(Of course I couchsurfed for three nights).
In this $30.5, $22 is from Copenhagen Card which includes transportation and entrance tickets and the rest is food cost.
This number is not as expensive as I thought, considering I can easily spend more in other country or city. But this expenditure is low because food is so so so expensive (more expensive than Iceland) and I mainly just ate bread. I didn’t feel like buying anything when it is so expensive. And also because I felt I had to see lots of attractions so there wasn’t time to go to a proper restaurant.
I bought a hot dog once (not worth it) and went to a buffet where I compensated my stomach. Also my couchsurfing host cooked dinner for us once (we were very fortunate).
I don’t think I can survive in Denmark as travelling to other cities in Denmark is expensive. And honestly Netto supermarkets are not cheap. I went to MAD supermarket in the Kobenhavn train station and found things on sale (5kr for broccoli and 29kr for 650grams of pork).
If you don’t spend on Copenhagen card, you will end up spending similar amount if you plan on seeing some of the attractions. If you are only going to see the free attraction and if you are couchsurfing, then you will be spending on your transportation and food cost. I think you can do it in $15. Though I don’t regret buying Copenhagen card at all 🙂
