Backpacking in Saint Petersburg- Travel Expenses for 3 Days

Many people say Saint Petersburg is one of the most expensive cities in Europe. But this is certainly not true anymore since the economic sanction against Russia by the EU because of their attack on Ukraine. Putting recent and old politics aside, I found Saint Petersburg to be an extremely charming and friendly city.

Each of us spent $29.85 per day.

There are too many attractions to impress you. It is unlikely not to spend on admission tickets. So we went to Peterhof, Saint Isaac’s Cathedral and Split Blood Church, and Hermitage museum.

We also watched a ballet at Mikhailovsky Theatre. We were lucky that The Sleeping Beauty was being performed, and the cheapest tickets were still available ($20 for each ticket).

We wasted one day becuase we tried to watch a circus there.. but when we got to the place we felt the scale was too small and not quite what we expected. We didn’t waste the money but certainly our time.

Transportation is quite cheap there. And food as well. There are many supermarkets in the basement of buildings. But we ate in the restaurants often as we didn’t need to worry about the prices there. And I do miss the borsch there.

Accommodation wise, I recommend the hostel I stayed. Though I only spent $11 per person for two nights because I had some discounts on Airbnb.

So, I would say a daily budget of $25-$30 is sufficient and it even includes a bed to sleep in a hostel. In other Scandinavian cities this budget can merely cover a dorm bed you see!

So from traveller’s point of view, now is a right time to visit Saint Petersburg.
It is beautiful, and very cultured. And of course, good for value too.

I would love to come back to this city and do more sightseeing!

What We Spent in St.P

Here is the detail to our expenditure. If I don’t write the currency then it is in rubbles. When I went there, it was 1 euro to 62 rubbles. (And 1 USD to 56 rubbles)

Keep in mind this book keeping is for 4 adults together! So divide the total cost by 4, then it will be a price for one. Except for food, you will probably pay more as one. Otherwise the price will be similar.
