We went to Siaulial, Kaunas, Trakai and Vilnius in two days. Actually we didn’t even get out of the car when we were in Kaunas. Hence our major cost was definitely transportation. (Read more about our itinerary here:Lithuania in 2 Days – My Suggested Itinerary)
Each of us spent $19.4 per day.
Transportation ($9.45)
We rented a car from Latvia and Lithuania. And I can definitely tell you it isn’t as necessary as renting a car in Iceland. And probably that is why car rental is cheap in the Baltics and why we rented a car.
Accommodation ($0)
Our couchsurfing host in Vilnius cooked a dinner for us, and we cooked the next dinner for them. The host was generous and we had free breakfast (actually the whole fridge was handed over to us!)
Food ($4.55)
Food is generally not expensive in Lithuania. Coffee was for $2 only, and supermarket is cheap too.
Entertainment ($3.8)
If you go to Lithuania, Vilnius can be explored in a day and don’t miss out on Trakai Castle. The castle can be explored in an hour, as it is small, but the surrounding lake is beautiful.
I wouldn’t be bothered to visit the hill of crosses or Kaunas. It doesn’t mean they aren’t nice, but probably not that impressive if you consider the effort and cost you need to make to get there.
If you plan to visit only Vilnius and Trakai, your budget should be $15 and maybe $25 if you aren’t couchsurfing.
It is really cheap considering it is Europe, isn’t it?
