Types of Costs
You need to consider your flight to get there ($700 from Istanbul) , and your visa fee ($100 to more). As long as you have these two costs covered, then the travel expenses within Uzbekistan is very cheap.
How Much Do You Need?
For a 8-day trip, bring a minimum of $400. I brought $700, and was surprised how cheap things are. I spent $36.63 per day, and the other Austrian traveler I met spent around $40 per day.
Transportation
You’re likely to travel by trains between Tashkent, Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva. Khiva is far away so many people choose to fly. I chose taking an overnight train. And if you plan to do side trips like Charvak Lake from Tashkent or Shakhrisabz from Samarkand, then you’d pay for the taxi fare.
Accommodation
Technically, I spent only 2 nights in a guesthouse bed. I spent 3 nights on the trains and 2 nights in my friend’s apartment in Tashkent. I don’t know if you can couchsurf in Uzbekistan…the concern is that you’d be asked ‘hotel slips’ by immigration officers when you depart the country. But I wasn’t asked. So it might be possible!
Food
Food is cheap. I ate out everyday.
Entertainment
Entrance tickets, camera tickets, and Fashion show and folklore dance ticket ($20).
Other
It depends on how many souvenirs you need to buy! The problem with Uzbekistan is things are cheap. So I sort of just went over my normal shopping budget!
If you see a good flight deal to Tashkent or you are already doing the ‘stans’, I’d really recommend Uzbekistan for you!
