Can You Find Cheap Food in Oslo?

Well, you don’t have to starve even though Oslo is one of the most expensive citiea in the world. And you can still eat well.

Here is what you should know

1. Always try to shop in a supermarket rather than a convenience store.
2. Always pack your own lunch.
3. Hot dog is only 5kr ($0.6) in IKEA.

My favourite supermarket is Rimi, and I think Kiwi and Rema1000 have cheap prices too.

You can eat well from buying food from the supermarket, and by cooking your own food. And honestly, if you don’t know how to cook, just boil the water and dump whatever you have. It will taste amazing!

10 NOK=$1.2 (roughly).

Shrimps cost 69kr ($8) per kg. This is about 0.85kg here and fed 4 (boil some noodles in the same water you use to boil these shrimps)

This salmon was 49kr ($5.7) for 500 grams. It was delicious.

And the pancake mix was 29kr ($3.4) and the blueberry was 15kr ($1.75) per box. Milk was between 13kr to 21kr ($1.5-$2.5).

So you will be fine. And there might be occasionally some offers on the street. But it is still somehow expensive if a burger costs 29kr ($3.5) when you can actually buy salmon or shrimps.

And if you go to IKEA, then you will find cheap food there in a relaxing environment.

This apple pie was 15kr ($1.75).

And this hot dog was 5kr ($0.6) (really!) And 2 slices of pizzas and soft drink (free refills) was 35kr ($4).

I didn’t go to any restaurant or cafe except in IKEA, and I ate pretty well from cooking the food bought in the supermarket.

Hope you have a good trip in Oslo!
