Canal Tours Copenhagen- A Family’s Favourite

My #3 Attraction with Copenhagen Card

Canal Tours is easily my and my family’s favorite thing to do in Copenhagen.

Time of Visit: Day 1, from 5:30pm (last boat is at 6pm in summer).

My tip:

1. Canal Tour runs till 6pm in the summer. So go there after 5pm when other attractions are closed.

2. Gammel Strand is close to Christiansborg Palace/The Danish Jewish Museum. So plan them on the same day.

3. If you aren’t couchsurfing, then visit  Rundetaarn (opens till 9pm) or chill out at Nyhavn after this.

My Experience

It’s a short walk from Christiansborg.  We arrived at 5:30pm watching people just boarded a boat and left. But with a Copenhagen Card you still need to go to the counter and exchange for a ticket.

So I waited for 15 minutes for the next boat ride (so they leave every 15 minutes I think).  And ate dinner (sausage we brought from Latvia).

And off we go! Although we were the earliest, we weren’t the first ones to board (because there wasn’t really a line, everyone is a tourist there). But it didn’t matter as there were many spaces. I think it doesn’t matter whether you sit on the left or right, although sitting on the right would let you take a better picture of Nyhavn!

I think it’s pretty difficult to navigate this boat, because the room for error is so small.  I got excited every time when we had to go under a bridge. Who knows I might be able to touch a bridge!

The boat tour comes with a guide who speaks both English and Spanish.

The warehouse here has doors and windows on this side. But since the king will not see the other side, and it’s important to save costs, this warehouse looks completely different from the other side.

The Royal Library (or the Black Diamond). I wish I live here.

And then Nyhavn! We stopped here to let more passengers board. This is definitely Copenhagen!

Then we continued to Copenhagen Opera House. Red Bull was doing PR when we went. The crane was setting up a diving board. Haha!

I think I know you?  This was the only time I saw the Little Mermaid. My family isn’t interested in statues, or sculptures. They didn’t like Vigeland Sculpture Park (in Oslo) either.  Though the Little Mermaid isn’t as small as I thought!

A famous architect designed this five circles bridge.

We were close to Christiania.

And while we passed another bridge, our guide told us to get our cameras ready for a good shot of Vor Frelsers Kirke (Our Savior Church)!

So this was the end of our trip. I don’t want to sound like a tourist, but it was so much fun to see Copenhagen from the water!
