I was in Boudha, Nepal.
It’s a religious place where Buddhists come to pray and worship.
As a Christian, you can feel the spiritual atmosphere is very different.
When the Buddhist prayer is played on a loud speaker which was penetrating my ears, my first reaction was calling out Jesus’ name.
I felt my heart was threatened and could be attacked by the demons if I don’t pay attention to guard my thoughts. It was almost natural to pray and start a spiritual warfare in that scenario.
And it seems so clear that God as well as the demons know who were the children of God.
While I was crying out Jesus name, the Holy Spirit helped me to understand Christian faith is not just an alternative. It is not a magical spill you use to get rid of demons. It is not a better option of all the gods you choose after comparing.
Our faith is not about one person living in wealth and wellbeing. It is not about when I am sick then I have a God who heals or when I am poor then I have a God who gives me a job.
Our faith is not about Jesus being the great doctor. Or Jesus knowing where to spread the nets to fish. Our faith doesn’t exist only when we give thanks before meals.
Our God is more than that. He is not an idol or a dummy who grants good weather. Our God is not so small. He is not a concept or some technology that can be replaced.
He is more powerful than that. His majesty is beyond understanding. Jesus has all the authority and power to perform signs and wonders, to feed and to heal.
But He is not interested in all these. What interests Him is people, His creation.
The Son of God chose to humble Himself, and He set a perfect example before our eyes. He is not just some imaginary character anymore.
We as Christian put our faith in God because …you never forget that time when He touched your heart and told you, “Follow me.”
You knew you had to respond.
You left what was precious to you on the shore, like Peter did.
You knew it was Him, your Creator, your Savior.
He was calling.
Our God is not an idol who waits for you to come to him when you need some favor. Our God reaches out to you and calls you. Our God makes sure that you know for sure that He chose you and you are irreplaceable to Him.
“Follow me.”
And you followed Him.
He’s not an alternative. You will not give your life to just an alternative. He is the real treasure. You know He is worthy.
Not because He has all the power to make miracles, but because He chose you.
You know that so clearly.
Though you don’t admit but many times you are discouraged in keeping Christian fairh and have returned to your old ways of life. And He asked you, “Do you love me more than these?”
And you surrender. Once again.
You leave your crown, so willingly and humbly at the feet of the King who died for you.
On a cross.
He didn’t just take a bullet for you. His hands and feet were nailed. He bled to die.
For you.
Our faith is not just an alternative. It is more complicated, and powerful, and compelling.
Our God wants to get involved in our lives. And He may send you to serve the homeless and the defenseless. He may come to you and ask you,
“Do you love me more than these?”
And if you are ready, He is taking you to a new realm of uncertainty. He is going to change your life completely.
You will not be you anymore.
You will be His, and He will be yours.
For God, you are never just an alternative. And He expects the same from you.
