First of all, it is important to pick out attractions you want to do. Copenhagen is a lovely but expensive place. So if you don’t plan to spend your money too quickly, then a good planning is important.
Copenhagen Attractions
If you plan to see at least Frederiksborg Slot and Kronborg, then Copenhagen Card will be very good for value.
Free Attractions in Copenhagen
If you rather have a laid-back experience and simply take it easy in Copenhagen, you can consider visiting one of these free attractions. Walking Tour (@11am&2pm), National Museum of Denmark, Botanical Garden, the Little Mermaid, Nyhavn, Brede Værk (clothing factory) ,National Gallery, Christiansborg The Tower…
(http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/copenhagen/sightseeing/top-10-free-things-do)
And once I was clear that I’d buy a Copenhagen Card, I went on a bit extreme by only visiting expensive attractions.. (because I could go to them next time?)
So here’s what I did, and what I’d do differently (marked in red)
Day 1
11:00 Activate Copenhagen Card (then meet my couchsurfing host)
13:30 Rosenborg (Rosenborg Slot- The Castle with Crown Jewels)
Rosenborg- Christiansborg: Take Bus 26 towards Ålholm Plads 6 stops/8min, walk 400m
16:00 Danish Jewish Museum (The Danish Jewish Museum- When Did Jews Come to Denmark?)
Walk
16:30 National Museum of Denmark (to get a free souvenir!) (it’s a free attraction)
17:00 Canal Grand tour (Canal Tours Copenhagen- A Family’s Favourite)
18:00 If my couchsurfing host lived in Copenhagen city, then I’d go to Rundetårn (10-20) and Nyhavn
My tip: I wouldn’t change anything except if I wasn’t couchsurfing, I’d stay longer near Nyhavn and see Rundetårn.
Day 2
09:30 Vor Frelsers Kirkes tårn (09:30-19:00) (Church of Our Savior Copenhagen- The Awesome View Above 400 Steps!)
10:15 Experimentarium City
Take harbor bus 993, walk 800 m
12:00 Change of Guards => Free, but not Recommended (The Tourist (And Boring) Route- Amalienborg Palace, Change of Guards and Marble Church)
12:30 Amalienborg Palace
13:15 The Marble Church (free)
Take bus 1A towards Hellerup St. 2 stops/3min, Exchange S-tog B towards Høje Taastrup St. at Østerport St 5 stops/11min, Get off at Enghave St, walk700m. => I’d rather spend time in Design Museum than taking a 30-min trip to Carlsberg Breweries and the Zoo
14:00 Carlsberg Breweries => Not Receommended, I’d rather spend time in the Experimentarium City or Rundetårn or christianshavn… Or make my way to Roskilde! (Copenhagen for Kids: Carlsberg Beer, Zoo, and Tivoli!)
Walk 1 km to the Zoo
16:00 Zoo => Not Receommended
Take 6A Bus towards Buddinge St. 8 stops/ 10min, Get off at Hovedbanegården
17:00 Tivoli => Not Receommended
My tip:If you could visit Vor Frelsers Kirkes tårn on your last day, I’d spend the whole day at Roskilde. It’s another city (very old city) where the royalties are buried.
Day 3
10:00 Frederiksborg Slot (My #1 Castle in Copenhagen- Frederiksborg Slot (and Ferry Ride))
12:30 Netto Badene
Take Lokalbane 930R towards Helsingør St (28 mins), walk 1.1 km
14:00 M/S Maritime Museum (Kronborg Castle in Denmark- More Than Hamlet’s Castle (And a Quick Stop to M/S Maritime Museum))
15:15 Kronborg
Take bus 388 towards Lyngby St. 17min/24stops
18:00 Louisiana Museum for Moderne Kunst
My tip: I wouldn’t change a thing on this day, except I’d stay in Louisiana Museum longer if my couchsurfing host wasn’t living so far away.
Day 4
10:00 Den Blå Planet (Den Blå Planet- My 15th and Final Attraction with 72-hr Copenhagen Card)
11:30 Go to airport, finish using Copenhagen Card
My tip: Visiting The Blue Planet right before going to the airport is convenient for me because my couchsurfing host lives 1 hour away from Copenhagen. However if you live in the city, you can go to other attractions like Rundetårn or Vor Frelsers Kirkes tårn that opens early in the city.
I hope it helps!
