Everyone knows about Santa Claus right? Well, as unfortunately as it is that many non-Christians do not know the meaning of Christmas is actually about celebrating the birth of Jesus the Messiah. Jesus is the best gift that we have ever received.
And well the idea of Santa Claus is fictional, I suppose there could be someone with this name and was nice to people on Christmas. And where the town of Santa Claus is depends on the versions in Finland, USA, Norway and… I forgot the fourth place. The Christmas/hometown of Santa Claus in Norway is not that far away. It is in a small fishing town called Drobak, yep! It is not in the woods with reindeers. The transportation to here is covered by 24 hours ticket for all zones.
The town is small and pleasant to walk around and stay for 3-4 hours.
The Santa actually sits in information center. He was there in his office giving out maps and answering questions for tourists.
And there are many letters sent to him who believe in Santa Claus. Most letters remained un-opened.
And there were many letters from Japan apparently.
There was another shop near the square with Santa Claus souvenirs.
And the town has cute houses and lots of boutiques. It is a pretty town, and not many tourists were there.
Although, strangely I didn’t find the people there as nice as the ones in Oslo. I felt blamed for not knowing the Norwegian language. A fisherman grabbed the shrimps we were gonna buy back in a rude manner because our card didn’t work on his machine. Even when we found ATM and sincerely brought cash to him, he treated us like dirt as he finished selling all his shrimps in 20 minutes while we were away. It was just rude.
So if you are looking for a Christmas town, Drobak isn’t the Disneyland kind of place. But if your goal is to enjoy the Oslo fjord and walk around a small town, then Drobak is quite a nice place to relax.
