For some reason Hotorshallen market seems to be a popular destination. The market even publishes a magazine!
Situated just 3 minutes walk from Hotorget metro station, you can easily find this market.Hotorshallen market in general has three types of products-Seafood, dairy products, dry goods and food. It reminds me of Victoria Market in Melbourne, Australia. Except the size is smaller here in Sweden. Each stall is also smaller. So you will find seafood here. I don’t know if it’s fresher than supermarket, but it isn’t cheaper.
And a lot of dry goods such as nuts, dry fruits, coffee and tea. Some have free sampling.
And then the food section. I think this is why people come to Hotorshallen.
But the price looks like a rip off to me. For example, a small rocket salad with shrimps is for 89kr ($10), and small box of lasagne is for 70kr ($8), and one piece of salmon is for 90kr ($10). For take away food, this is not cheap. And plus for similar price you can go for Dagens Ratt or lunch buffet.
And for the famous fish soup here (and in Helsinki too except I think one more refill is only available in Stockholm and not Helsinki), I felt 90kr for a bowl of soup (bread and salad included) was also not as good in value as lunchbuffet or Dagens Ratt. And the atmosphere is average. So… that’s just my opinion. This place seems too turistic now.
Even the fruit stalls outside Hotorshallen seemed more expensive than supermarket. They offer 50% off after 5pm, however it is still not cheaper than supermarket. Take cherry for example, it is 10kr per 100g after 5pm. But in Hemkop supermarket it was 6kr per 100g anytime.
So this is just for your information, I hope it helps!
