Husavik
Husavik is a famous place for spotting whales, and it’s a place where you might see blue whales! It’s a beautiful fishing town by its own merit. Eventually I opted for a whale watching tour in Dalvik!). While I thought I’d still make a quick stop at Husavik, the town amazed me with something unexpected.
Little Men
Being a famous town of Iceland, I was shocked by how small the town actually is! When I had to make a U-turn, I noticed this house with these cute decorations. I don’t know if this is typical Icelandic tradition. One thing was certain that this was a house and not a shop!
Husavik Church
And.. by the harbour, you’d see this beautiful church.
While it’s not a famous church for tourists, it’s widely used by the local community!
And here I found something amazing…..an Icelandic Bible!
I can’t describe how excited I was! Probably just like when Mr.Bilbo found the ring! And…. I opened it! And it’s like…. wow! Now, find the book of Genesis, quick! Can you guess where it is?
And one thing that surprised me was the illustrations in the Bible! It helps readers to understand God’s requirement on the Tabernacle and the high priest’s garment. How come my Bible doesn’t look like this?
See! This is Aaron! And yes, he does look more viking here! Hehehe Viking Aaron.
I was told by a German there that Icelandic Bible was translated from German and not English. And in a way Icelandic is similar to the dialect of Northern Germany. I was surprised to know this, and got even more surprised when the German guy started to point out a few words he recognized in Icelandic. So, the point is, Icelandic people had Bible for a long time!
And I just want to show you how cool their Bible is
I actually spent a long time taking pictures of their Bible. I’d love to upload more if anyone’s interested! 🙂 I think it’s a gem!
P.S And if you want to use free wifi and washroom, the building of Northsailing across the street can answer your needs!
