There are two circus in Saint Petersburg.
1.The Bolshoi St Petersburg State
One is called The Bolshoi St Petersburg State. This one is the state’s circus. And it has a long history. The website is available in English and you can’t buy tickets online (you could, if you are already in Saint Petersburg). The cheapest ticket starts from 500 rubbles.
2.Avtovo Circus
The other one is called Avtovo Circus. It is a new circus, and it seems more interesting than the Bolshoi circus. Use Google translator as the website is only available in Russian. The cheapest tickets start from 600 rubbles. They post schedule of their shows about a week in advance. So you can see which one suits you.
These two circus are situated on different sides of Saint Petersburg. Bolshoi is on the last stop of the orange line. And Avtovo is at the Avtovo station of the red line, also where you can take minibus to go to Peterhof summer palace.
I went to the Bolshoi circus, the journey took about 30 minutes. Be prepared to know how to get to the circus as the locals actually don’t know. I was really surprised. When you get out from the subway, turn left and go straight into Catherine’s Park. You will pass some buildings before you see the park. And you will see a huge Okei supermarket before you enter the park.
The park is filled with rides and other entertainment. Not cheap. But the locals seem to enjoy it.
And then you see the tent of the circus.
It is also in the park. And it is very small. I was expecting the state’s circus to be grand and impressive. But this one certainly didn’t look promising. And it looks like only small kids went there with their parents.
So I didn’t go. I wasn’t sure if I would get what I want. And I think maybe the Avtovo circus will be bigger.
Hope this helps!
