If you are not particularly fit, then plan for a 5-day trekking in Poon Hill.
Our actual itinerary (anti clockwise) is
Day 1 Nayapul-Birethanti-Sauli Bazar- Kimche-Ghandruk
Day 2 Ghandruk- Bhasikarka- Tadapani
Day 3 Tadapani-Bethanti-Deurali
Day 4 Deurali- Ghorepani-Poon Hill-Ghorepani
Day 5 Ghorepani-Poon Hill- Bathanti-Ulure-Tikhedunga-Hille-Birethanti-Nayapol
The cities marked in orange color are accessible by vehicles. Some people start their trekking from Nayapol. But the scenery was quite average and so it didn’t seem like a great idea to spend the effort having so little reward. So my actual journey started from Kimche (where a vehicle could go the furthest, and by vehicle mine was a local bus…..)
And from Hille I took a jeep to Nayapol (about Rs.300 per head.)
You may wonder why I relied on transportation and not by my own feet? Well, I hardly exercise… and the same goes to my parents. They are in their 50s. So we aren’t sure about our capability.
Here’s our experience, you can see our actual trekking time. It might be a good reference to those who can walk but don’t have a habit of exercising. Most trekkers in Poon Hill walked much faster than we did (and we even had porters to carry most of our weight). So I’d say the estimated time is for newbie/amateur trekkers like us.
Hi there,
I am planning to do the Poon Hill trek next month and I wondered which direction you think would be easier in terms of going down hill? I have bad knees and find going down worse on my knees.
Thanks,
If you are concerned, then you should do it clockwise! It’d be better to climb up those stairs!
