Poon Hill Trekking in 5 Days- My Suggested Itinerary

The Map of Poon Hill Trek. The trekking time is a little bit too optimistic for me.

Day 4 Deurali-Ghorepani

Deurali- Ghorepani-Poon Hill-Ghorepani
6:00am  Good morning
6:25-7:25 am Sunrise at Kurong View Point (failed)
7:25-8:30am Good morning breakfast
9:00-11:30 Deurali to Ghorepani 
11:30-13:00 Tea Break
13:00-15:30 Shower/relax
15:30-17:30 Trekking to Poonhill
18:30-19:30 Dinner
20:00 Goodnight

Deurali(3,090m)- Ghorepani(2,790m) 4.4km
Ghorepani(2,790m)- Poon Hill (3,194m)-Ghorepani(2,790m)  4.5km

Estimated Trekking time for others: 4 hours 15 mins

Total trekking time: 9km/ 5hr 30 mins

 

Comment: When we went, the weather was so unpredictable, it rained, hailed and snowed. That’s why we went to Poon Hill in the afternoon instead of morning. We walked 9km this day, it was okay though! Everyone seemed to be happy and still breathing.

 

Day 5 Ghorepani-Hille

Ghorepani- Bathanti-Ulure-Tikhedunga-Hille-Birethanti-Nayapol 
6:30am good morning
6:50-7:20 lookout / view
8:00-10:20 Trekking to Bantanti 
10:30-12:00 To Ulleri
12:00-13:20 to Tikhedunga 
13:20-14:07  Lunch
14:07-14:40 To Hille
15:00-16:00 jeep
16:00- bus

Ghorepani (2,790m)-Bathanti (2,240m) 5.5km
Bathanti(2,240m)-Ulure (2,025m)  2.5km
Ulure (2,025m)-Tikhedunga (1,530m) 3km
*3767 stairs
Tikhedunga-Hille 1km?  (Easy walk…. )
Hille-Nayapol  8.5km  (We missed)

Estimated Trekking time for others: 6 hours 45 mins
Total trekking time: 12km/ 5hr 43 mins

Comment: If you want, it’s possible to go to Poon Hill for sunrise and still manage to go to Hille on this day. Since after Ghorepani it’s all downhill to Hille.   I met a few travelers who did this (of course because they are more fit). I was pretty wasted after 12km. I just wanted to sleep and my feet swelled (because of the stairs).

    I am planning to do the Poon Hill trek next month and I wondered which direction you think would be easier in terms of going down hill? I have bad knees and find going down worse on my knees.

    • If you are concerned, then you should do it clockwise! It’d be better to climb up those stairs!
