Where to Stay in Samarkand? Don’t Miss Out This Lovely Bahodir B&B

Back in the days when booking accommodation online wasn’t that popular, I accidentally stayed at Bahodir B&B in March, 2013. It was a very pleasant surprise, like going on a blind date.

I didn’t consult with the Lonely Planet on accommodation, instead I took wikitravel (Samarkand) as my reference. When my friend and I took the taxi straight from Tashkent airport to Samarkand, I had not made up my mind where to stay. But when we reached Samarkand at 7:20am in the morning, our driver asked where to drop us. Well, so we picked Bahodir B&B.

Bahodir B&BMulokandov 132 (In the city center, on the east side of the Registan, behind the museum.),  +998 622 35-47-59, +998 622 35-43-05. checkout: 12:00This place seems to be the main meeting point for backpackers in Samarkand. The courtyard with teabeds makes a nice place for few beers and sharing travel stories. The staff is friendly, honest and willing to sell beer from their fridge. However, if staying in the dorm, the shared bathroom and toilet is a bit claustrophobic, but not bad. There is WiFi but had some kind of problem [Aug 2012] {GPS N 39° 39.366 E 066° 58.753} US$ 8 for a dorm bed, doubles from US$ 20 , breakfast is included and a dinner costs US$3 extra.

And to my surprise, a taxi driver from Tashkent knew where Bahodir B&B was. Although it was really early in the morning, someone answered the door and welcomed us in!

The taxi driver waited for us (without stealing our bags!) and we saw the room (double room with toilet) and it cost us $30 per night together including breakfast! (You can check their current price at Booking.com, it is still $30 as of 2018)

The rate was okay for us, although the room and the toilet was really basic, we were just tired to look for another place that early in the morning. When we returned to the taxi driver. he seemed really concerned whether we had found a place to stay. And he seemed relieved that we liked Bahodir.

After we settled down in our room, we were called downstairs for welcome tea. It was complimentary! I love the honey tea with the biscuit! (And we exchanged money here.) I felt pretty safe, welcomed and relaxed here.

The location of Bahodir B&B was pretty central. I don’t know about other hotels or B&B, but for $15 per person per night, it was a good enough deal. They also offer dinner at $3. It sounded good to us as we planned on sleeping early that night, so it’d be good to save ourselves the trouble for finding our dinner in a new city.

And the dinner was sumptuous! It was really mouthwatering! And we felt we ate like kings (or queens!)! We had bread, nice mutton dumplings, salads, soup, tea and a cake! All in $3 per person! I think for this dinner it’s an absolute incentive to stay at Bahodir!
