If you happen to be in Saint Petersburg for three days and you have no idea what to see, then Saint Isaac’s Cathedral is an easy answer.
It’s conveniently located near the Nevsky Prospect and the Hermitage. I know how vague the term within walking distance is, but well, if you are not distracted by the shops then it takes about 10 minutes to walk from Nevsky Prospect subway stop. It is also the last stop of the compulsory bus package of St.Peter Line Ferry (if you are using 72 visa-free policy to enter Russia).
And when you get to St. Isaac’s Cathedral, you will understand why everyone comes here.
I’ve not seen any church or cathedral like this. In terms of architecture, it is grand, impressive and marvelous. You will see drawings from every angle. The ceilings are pretty high, which makes the architects even more remarkable. No wonder this cathedral is among the top 4 cathedrals in Europe.
I really enjoyed this cathedral, and the natural sunlight inside even seems more sacred.
I wondered why religion played such an important role in people’s lives before. Whether willingly or unwillingly, money was gathered to build this beautiful cathedral to glorify God (maybe), I think we still need this attitude today. Knowing we are created and our Creator worth all the praises and honor. And knowing that He is the King who is clothed in glory and righteousness.
And when I looked closer, those paintings (I thought they were paintings) were not paintings! They were mosaic! Huge mosaic!
It is amazing how detailed it is! Besides, every wall has a different picture and the cathedral is basically covered by dozens of different art pieces.
It is really impressive and I wish I could describe it better.
If you go there, the ticket price is 250 rubbles ($4), and it is well worth the money. Student ticket is not available from the kiosk machine.
I didn’t see any place for luggage storage, so you will need to check-in your luggage first.
Wow this looks so beautiful!! I hope we can make it there one day!
Definitely 🙂 you will enjoy it 😉
