Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Siaulial in the evening
Day 2 Hill of Crosses (in Siaulial) -> Trakai Castle -> Vilnius
Day 3 One Day in Old Town of Vilnius
Day 4 Return to Riga
Tips
I rented a car from Green Motion in Riga (Latvia). It’s perfectly fine to travel by public transportation except Siaulial is out of the way and it’s one place I wouldn’t go without a private vehicle.
If you don’t have a car, then skip Siaulial.
Budget
We were a group of 4 adults (family), and so for each day each of us spent $19.25 per day.
Other Attractions
I passed Kaunas (the second city of Lithuania), I actually quite like the city. So ideally if you rent a car and have 3 days in Lithuania, then you can spend half a day here and half a day in Vilnius (I didn’t get to see Uzupis).
Curonian Spit seems to be a popular option for those who love ‘desert’ or sand-dunes. It’s not my favorite thing in the world and it’s not a cheap destination.
Will I go back to Lithuania?
I liked Lithuanian people quite a lot because of my Couchsurfing experience. However I felt I’ve seen most things and I wouldn’t go back just for Kaunas. So I guess I wouldn’t plan to go there in the next 10 years.
What a surprise to see an article about Lithuania! I hope you enjoyed your visit. Well, I think you should come back to Lithuania one day and visit Užupis in the first place. For me, it is the most interesting and charming spot in Vilnius, which has a lot of impressive stories to tell. I wrote an article about Republic of Užupis in my blog. If you are interested to know more about that place, you are welcome to read it: https://bamserblog.wordpress.com/2016/02/07/uzupis-republic-montmartre-of-the-vilnius/
Ahhhh….. Yeah, I missed Uzupis because I went with my family, and they don’t seem to feel connected to hipster/artistic kind of thing. But who knows, if I have a chance to revisit Vilnius, I might like Uzupis! Thanks for the link to your beautiful article. I checked, and you’ve taken wonderful pictures 😀
And sorry to say that I wouldn’t go back to Lithuania in the next 10 years. I hope that wasn’t offensive to you :/// I said that in a context that I felt I saw a lot in Lithuania in those 2 full days already! And I did enjoy my time in Lithuania (amazing + humble +tall people) and I certainly left with good memories!
Thanks again for visiting my blog!
Hey 🙂 Thank you for reading my article about Užupis, I’m glad that you liked it. I understand you, that you probably won’t visit Lithuania in near future. And that’s a good idea. You saw most of our main attractions and the World has a lot of other countries, which are worth to visit. 🙂
Best wishes,
Bamser
Ohh! Yes of course, Trakai is a beautiful place to visit, and it’s so close to Vilnius 😀
I agree and I can see from your blog that you’ve traveled to many beautiful places already 😉
Sadly, I don’t travel often because of my tiny students budget and an intense schedule of my studies, but I hope that after some time I will have more stories to tell about my travelling experience. 🙂
Have a nice evening.
